ReplyDeleteI love being read to! The weird thing, though, is that I don't like to read aloud. This may sound strange, but it hurts my brain! I think being read to is a great activity. Even our middle school students are still read to! They love it. It is a tradition in their 6th grade English class on every Friday. They have a teacher who is really good at making voices when she reads aloud.

I love to read, not only books but also audio books. My wife doesn't like to read books, but she loves to listen to audio books too. Listening is a different skill and requires a different part of the brain. Often listening is easier and can allow for more enjoyment (especially if the reader is good.)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's 4th grade teacher read a chapter of "Misty of Chincoteague" to the class every day to help their reading comprehension. She loved it so much, that the next summer, we went to Chincoteague for a week. Many adults attend poetry and book readings - why shouldn't older students get to share in the fun?
ReplyDeleteI like to read to others, but I don't really prefer that others read to me. Unless of course it is a poetry reading.
ReplyDeleteYes I do like having stories read aloud to me! That is how I was brought up. One of my parents, mostly my mother, would read to me every night before I went to sleep.
